Make It Your Own

Make it unique. Make it yourself. Make it your own

My philosophy 19 April, 2007

Everyone is unique. God had a particular reason for making each person and he was quite deliberate about it. Everyone has their own style and everyone is special in one way or another. Don’t be a sheep, make your life unique.

Just as people are special, the earth is special too. God wants us to take care of them. One of the best ways to do this is to do things yourself and be less of a consumer. Make your own clothes, grow your own food, spend less money on things so there is more for those who have nothing. Do as little or as much as you can. Make it yourself.

When you make something, grow something or cook something there is a part of YOU in it. Make it your own.

I love the special buzz you get when you eat your own produce. Oranges are sweeter, cucumbers are almost buttery, broccoli just tastes like it has way more antioxidants.

I love the special buzz you get when you put on your the cardigan that you knitted – your very first. Or when you hand your daughter a scarf and matching fingerless gloves that money can’t buy cause they are knitted with love.

I’m enjoying your blog – thank you!

What a great philosophy statement! I agree – God’s love for us and for our planet is a great reason to ‘make it yourself’ and use the earth’s resources well. We are each unique and have so much creativity in us.

    Enjoying your blog!

I was googling “felting old jumpers” and came across your blog. What a find! I have to get back to the washing machine but can’t wait to read more…

If only more folks would live by your philosophy. I’m working towards reducing my consumption and making more handmade gifts each year. I started a vegetable garden this past Summer and loved digging in the dirt. I think my stews tasted better with the homegrown veggies. I’m buying from local spinners too and visiting local craft shows for unique holiday gifts. Believe it or not, I’m not feeling stressed about xmas for the first time in many years. When I realized it’s not the quanity of gifts that I give, but the quality and thought behind each one, I embraced the upcoming holidays.

I know now why we get along so well – we are kindred spirits on what we believe. Except you’ve gone further than me at living out your philosopy – I’m still getting there slowly. Nice to have such a good teacher as a friend!!

Love to Jesse – (about time you put some info on here about him!!)
